Canon IP 1800: set for grayscale, but color toner is being used?

Do I need to change another setting so my color toner will not be used?Canon IP 1800: set for grayscale, but color toner is being used?
With all Canon printers I have run into, when it goes through it's cleaning cycle (every time you turn it on) it runs a bit of ink out of each cartridge.

I swear they do it on purpose...Canon IP 1800: set for grayscale, but color toner is being used?
maybe you do not have anymore black ink, which would force the computer to use every single other color to make black.
There are different shades of black. Some have red, blue, green or even yellow in them. If you mix all the primary colours together they won't be black, but brown. Try it with some water colours! :)
